President Obama began his speech on Monday in Washington by
offering praise to the FBI. The. organization’s motto is “fidelity, bravery and
integrity”. President Obama believes that James B. Comey exemplifies these
characteristics above all other candidates. Comey became the 7th
director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation following his ceremonial oath.
Obama went on to apologize to the FBI for being thwarted
during the government shutdown. The President is aware of the task at hand and
the great difficulty of protecting the nation at home and abroad. He assures
that such events will not happen again and that the Federal Bureau of
Investigation will receive adequate resources in order to complete its
responsibilities.
Comey’s term as F.B.I. director is set for 10 years. In his
acceptance speech he once again referred to the qualities that make the Bureau
so influential on the life of Americans. He has complete faith in his agents
and considers them fully prepared to uphold justice and to continue the
organization’s mission. Comey took time in his speech to explain the motto of
the Bureau, and why “fidelity, bravery and integrity” must be upheld so that
the F.B.I. does not stray from its mission
The new Director looks to uphold the policy of making all
new agents and analysts visit the Holocaust Museum. He will now require these
employees to also visit the Memorial to DR. Martin Luther King Junior. Upon
visiting these sites, the FBI agents and analysts will be able to see what
responsibilities lie ahead of them.
James B. Comey was the former deputy attorney general during
the Presidency of George W. Bush. He has further enhanced his resume through
the prosecution of the Gambino’s. Comey looks forward to the honor and the
challenge of leading the F.B.I.
